Chapter Founded: 2014

 

The Ithaca College chapter founded the New York Film and Television Student Alliance in 2014 and has been growing it's membership every since.

​

The Ithaca College chapter held the first inauguration summit in 2014. The summit is held each academic year at either Ithaca College or Fordham University giving students from across the state the opportunity to take part in this professional career building event.

Members of the Ithaca College chapter traveled to New York City for a learning experience in the television/film industry in April 2023. Students met with industry professionals, Park School alumni, toured museum and film sets and experienced the city. They also got to meet with the LIU Brooklyn NYFTSA chapter.

MEET THE TEAM

Matt Minton.jpg

Matt Minton

President

Matt is currently a senior at Ithaca College majoring in Writing for Film, Television and Emerging Media with minors in Integrated Marketing Communications and Writing.

 

They are incredibly passionate about film, television, journalism and the world of PR, using these media channels to highlight LGBTQIA+ voices that have long gone unheard. On top of returning to NYFTSA for their third year on campus after originally starting off as Social Media Manager, Matt is also a producer for ICTV’s NewsWatch Sunday, a reporting intern at The Ithaca Voice, works as a tutor at The Writing Center, edits for Buzzsaw Magazine, writes for The Ithacan, The Rolling Tape and Geek Vibes Nation and is producing a student thesis film this semester. They also just finished up a summer internship at M Booth, an award-winning creative communications agency based in New York City.

 

Aside from eagerly talking your ear off about the latest movies they’ve seen, Matt also enjoys writing short stories and poetry and dancing and choreographing for IC Unbound, Ithaca College’s largest and longest-running dance group on campus.

Katherine Kummerer

Vice President & State Representative

Katherine is currently a second-year student at Ithaca College majoring in Television and Digital Media Production and minoring in Marketing. 

 

Katherine aspires to be a director in live production. She is very excited to expand her knowledge through classes and experience here at Ithaca College. She has been a part of multiple Ithaca College Television shows, most recently director of Newswatch Sunday, and is very excited to try new things in the film, television, and media world! She is also a content creator for the swim and dive team with Ithaca College Athletics Creative Media.

 

This is Katherine’s second year with NYFTSA and first semester as Vice President & State Representative. She is very excited to become even more involved and be able to help other NYFTSA chapters across the state!

 

Aside from film and television, Katherine is also on the executive board of IC’s club swim team as the fundraising coordinator. She enjoys swimming, music, baking, and spending time with friends and family.

Elijah Cedeño

Treasurer

Elijah is currently a junior at Ithaca College with a major in Film, Photography, and Visual Arts and a minor in Deaf Studies.

 

Elijah is passionate about all things film and television. From pre-production to post-production. From script to screen. From filmmaking to film analysis. At Ithaca College he is learning how he wants to turn that passion into a career by experimenting and trying out different roles on different student films. At the moment he finds that photography and editing seem to be his particular areas of interest.

 

NYFTSA has been Elijah’s favorite extracurricular on campus since he came to IC in the first semester of his Freshman year. He has been actively involved in the student org since and is hoping to get even more involved by taking up the e-board position of assistant treasurer.

Alysia Parks

Public Relations Director

Alysia is currently a sophomore at Ithaca College majoring in Film, Photography, and Visual Arts, and minoring in Biology. 

 

Alysia enjoys editing, directing, and taking photos. She also has an appreciation for nature and hopes to direct nature documentaries. Alysia also aspires to be an action movie director, while having a passion for editing and using special effects. During her time at Ithaca she has been a part of ICTV working as a camera operator. She has directed many live shows, created commercials, managed a social media page, and led a team of students on how to run a show professionally. She hopes to keep  learning more positions and make connections in her time here in this organization and at Ithaca. 

 

Outside of film and photography, Alysia is part of the Guiding Eyes for the Blind club and hopes to help train guide dogs. She also enjoys learning about animals and their behaviors in her free time.

Nick Polisi

Travel Coordinator

Nick is currently a second-year student at Ithaca College majoring in Television and Digital Media.

 

He enjoys shining a light on various things throughout the community with his passion for broadcast journalism. Nick has worked in a studio format since he was in the 9th grade, now he is the Technical Producer for Newswatch Sunday on Ithaca College Television. He enjoys being heavily involved with various roles throughout ICTV. This is Nick’s third semester with NYFTSA, and first semester as travel coordinator. Outside of the studio, Nick enjoys traveling with friends and hanging outdoors whenever he has the chance.

Chrissy Guest

Faculty Advisor

Chrissy Guest is the founding faculty member of the New York Film Television Student Alliance. She serves as the Ithaca College chapter advisor as well as the Advisory Chair for NYFTSA statewide.

 

An award winning educator, she teaches television production courses at the Roy H. Park School of Communications. She has approached media from several angles over the course of her career, having worked as a photojournalist, producer, director, writer, art director, news assignment editor and numerous other roles behind the scenes. She is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker for Infinite Hope: MLK and the Civil Rights Movement, airing nationally on PBS. Guest currently channels her practical experience and knowledge into future generations by teaching at Ithaca College and developing new curriculum, immersive work experiences and degree programs in an ever-innovating industry. Guest earned her M.F.A. in Creative Writing and her B.S. Cultural Studies, Television and Radio Production. She is passionate about inspiring future filmmakers who want to tell stories through moving pictures, whether live-action or animated.
